International OSA Network of Students (IONS Xi’an 2017)

For promoting development of optics and optoelectronics, strengthening international academic exchanges and cooperation for graduate students, jointly held by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Optical Society, Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics and Najing University, undertaken by the OSA student chapter of XIOPM and Nanjing University, the IONS Xi’an 2017 has been held in Xi’an, China from April 24 to 28, 2017, located at Hilton Garden Inn. This is the forth time for China to hold conference and first time for Xi’an to hold such a grand conference! The conference has attracted 28 and 5 chapter representatives from famous universities or institutes of home and abroad, showed their chapter activities and exchanged their experiences in managing the chapter during the “chapter management communication” session. Besides, there are more than 150 young scholars and 3 professional companies attending the conference, An Pan, the president of student chapter of XIOPM take the chair of the conference. 8 distinguished experts were invited to give plenary talks during the conference including Prof. Sune Svanberg (Chairman of Nobel Committee for Physics in Royal Academy of Sciences), Prof. Katarina Svanberg(Former Chairman of SPIE) and Prof. Jannick Rolland (Associate Director of the R.E. Hopkins Center for Optical Design & Engineering, University of Rochester),Gongru Lin(President of the Photonics Society of Taiwan, National Taiwan University), Yanqing Lu(Winner of Changjiang Distinguished Professor and Young Distinguish Scholar Funding, a fellow of OSA),Xiaowei Sun(Winner of “1000 Talent Award”), Zhiyi Wei(Winner of State Natural Science Award and Young Distinguish Scholar Funding),Rim Cherif(2017 OSA ambassador)) and 2 invited talks were given by Prof. Xuanhua Li of Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xusan Yang of Peking University. There are 75 oral presentations. During the 3-day conference, young scholars from different colleges and countries discussed deeply on the latest improvements, future developments and challenges in the field of Optics and Optoelectronics. 12 presenters were awarded the for their excellent performance during the conference.
